Cookies

Cookies are short text fragments (letters and/or numbers) which allow the web server to store information on the client (browser) to be reused during the same visit to the site (session cookies) or later, even after several days (persistent cookies). Cookies are stored, based on user preferences, from the single browser on the specific device you are using (computers, tablets, smartphones).

Similar technologies, such as web beacons, transparent GIFs, and all forms of local storage introduced with HTML5, can be used to gather information about user behavior and its use of services.

In the following, we will refer to cookies and all similar technologies simply by using the term “cookies”.
Types of cookies

Depending on the characteristics and the use of cookies we can distinguish different categories:

Mandatory Cookies. These are essential cookies for the proper functioning of the site and are used to manage login and access to the site’s private functions. Their duration is strictly limited to the work session (they are deleted when closing the browser) through an alpha-numeric code generated at the first access session – so that the test result is returned to the user. Their deactivation compromises the use of accessible login services. The public part of the website remains normally usable.
Analysis and performance cookies. These are cookies used to collect and analyze traffic and site usage anonymously. These cookies, even without identifying the user, allow, for example, to detect whether the same user returns to connect at different times. They also allow us to monitor your system and improve its performance and usability. Disabling such cookies can be performed without any loss of functionality.
Profiling cookies. These are permanent cookies used to identify (anonymously and not) the user’s preferences and enhance its navigation experience. This site does not use cookies of this type.

Third Party Cookies

By visiting a website you may receive cookies from both the visited site (“owners”) or from sites managed by other organizations (“third parties”). A notable example is the presence of “social plugins” for Facebook, Twitter, Google and LinkedIn. These are parts of the visited page generated directly from these sites and integrated into the hosting website. The most common use of social plugins is aimed at content sharing on social networks.

The presence of these plugins involves the transmission of cookies to and from all sites managed by third parties. Management of information collected by “third parties” is governed by the related information to which reference shall be aimed. In order to ensure greater transparency and convenience, here are the web addresses of the various disclaimers and modalities on how to manage cookies.

Google Analytics

It also includes some components transmitted by Google Analytics, a web traffic analysis service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Again, this is third-party cookies that are collected and managed anonymously for monitoring and improving the performance of your site (performance cookie).

Google Analytics uses “cookies” to anonymously collect and analyze information on site usage behaviors (including the user’s IP address). This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes it for the purpose of drafting reports for operators regarding activities on the websites themselves. This site does not use (and does not allow third parties to use) the Google Analysis Tool to track or collect personal identification data. Google does not associate the IP address with any other data held by Google or attempt to relate an IP address with a user’s identity. Google may also disclose this information to third parties where this is required by law or where such third parties deal the above information on Google’s behalf.

The user can selectively disable Google Analytics by installing the opt-out component provided by Google on their browser. To disable Google Analytics action, please refer to the following link:

Cookie Duration

Some cookies (session cookies) remain active until the browser closes or the logout command is executed. Other cookies “survive” at the end of the browser and are also available on subsequent visits of the user.

These cookies are said to be persistent and their duration is fixed by the server at the time of their creation. In some cases a deadline is set, in other cases the duration is unlimited.

However, by browsing site pages, you can interact with third-party managed sites that can create or edit permanent and profiling cookies.
Manage cookies

The user can decide whether or not to accept cookies using their browser settings.

Caution: the total or partial disabling of technical cookies may compromise the use of site features reserved for registered users. Conversely, the use of public content is also possible by completely disabling cookies.

Disabling third party cookies does not affect navigability in any way.

The setting can be specifically defined for different sites and web applications. In addition, the best browsers allow you to define different settings for “proprietary” and “third-party” cookies”.

As an example, in Firefox, through the Tools->Options ->Privacy menu, you can access a control panel where you can define whether or not to accept different types of cookies and remove them.
